Some of the best locations for skiing in Austria

The Austrian regions most popular for skiers are Arlberg, Innsbruck and the Stubai Glacier, Kitzbühel and the Montafon ski region. All of these exciting regions offer the best in skiing in Austria, and other exciting outdoor activities of all kinds, along with wonderful hospitality and cuisine.

Arlberg

Arlberg is 4,278 – 9,223 ft. above sea level and the region offers 85 ski lifts. On offer are 124 miles of glacier skiing along with deep snow and 161 miles of downhill terrain. In Arlberg there are several Ski bars, along with exciting sports besides skiing. Both squash and tennis are on offer, as well as alpine curling, tobogganing and ice-skating, and there are horse-drawn sleigh rides available for those looking for a more relaxing option. There is excellent cuisine on offer throughout. Getting there: The closest airports are: Innsbruck - 62 miles. Zurich - 124 miles Munich - 130 miles.  For convenience, there is a bus service running between Arlberg and Zurich Airport over the weekends.

Innsbruck

The Stubai Glacier offers over 50 kilometres of ski runs to suit all skiers, including downhill skiing, boarding and carving and around 2.8 miles of cross-country tracks.

Kitzbühel

On offer for skiers are 99 miles of manicured pistes, along with deep-snow slopes, mountains ideal for ski tours and a great fun park for snowboarders.

On top of this, Kitzbühel offers excellent hotels, great cuisine, night life and après-ski enjoyment. Besides the bars, restaurants and shops, there is also a casino on offer.

Montafon The Montafon valley in Austria stretches for around 25 miles and there are eleven villages up at altitudes of 1,969-4,757 ft.  The valley is also encircled by majestic peaks of over 10,000 ft. In the villages of Montafon, there is a casual and sporting atmosphere offering a variety of leisure activities, family-friendly localities and quiet Alpine destinations perfect for kicking back and relaxing. When traveling from Zurich, Schruns, Gaschurn, Gargellen in the Vorarlberg province are the easiest to access. While in summer, this area offers sheer beauty, winter turns it into one huge skiing paradise with marked and manicured downhill runs for approximately 122 miles.

For access, there are 66 mountain railways and ski lifts and ski tours are available on the white Silvretta glaciers, 119 miles of winter hiking trails, 62 miles of cross-country trails, along with natural artificial toboggan runs.
