5 Attractions For A Great Family Holiday In Mallorca, Spain

When planning an island holiday with the family, Mallorca (or Majorca) in the Spanish Balearic Islands is an excellent choice. Not only does the island have gorgeous beaches and clear, turquoise waters, but there are also many other attractions for the whole family. 1. Palma Aquarium

Open every day of the year, Palma Aquarium is an excellent marine park located in Mallorca’s capital, Palma. The aquarium is home to some 8,000 marine animals of 700 species, living in more than 5 million litres of water. A visit to the aquarium takes you to the Atlantic, Indian, Mediterranean and Pacific Oceans, with all the common species from each area. Palma Aquarium also offers The Big Blue, considered to be the deepest shark tank in Europe.

2. Water Parks

In the heat of summer, there is nothing quite like a water park to cool off and have loads of fun. There is a choice of water parks in Majorca including Aqualand in El Arenal, Hidropark in Alcúdia and Western Water Park in Magaluf. Each water park offers a selection of water slides and pools to suit the whole family. Have fun in a wave pool or take the little ones to the children’s attractions and kid’s pool at each waterpark.

3. Caves to visit

Another excellent way to cool off in the summer months is a variety of caves on the island. All these underground cave systems maintain a comfortable temperature of 18 degrees Celsius all year round. Take a guided tour through the Coves d'Arta, where you can view the “Queen of the Pillars.” This is a 22 m tall, unique stalagmite. While there, enjoy a light and sound show to give a special effect to the amazing stalagmites and stalactites in the caves.

The Caves of the Dragon are another choice which comprises of four caves. The family can relax and listen to musicians playing classical music on boats sailing on Europe’s largest underground lake, Lake Martel.

4. Go-Karting

Karting Magaluf is a fun visit for all ages and is a great way to enjoy a quick adrenaline buzz. The park offers minikarts for children from three years of age, junior carts for teenagers and a special race class for parents. For anyone with the need for speed, there are three different courses to race on.

Xtremkart is an indoor karting track located at Mallorca Fashion Outlets. Here groups of daredevils race against each other in high-performance karts. This option doesn’t come cheap but it is certainly loads of fun for older kids and parents.

5. Visit the island of Cabrera

For a quieter day out in Mallorca, pack a delicious picnic and your snorkelling gear and catch a boat to Cabrera from Colonia St. Jordi. Spend an enjoyable day in unspoiled nature on the lovely beaches, capture photos of the rare bird species here or go snorkelling in the clear, underwater world.
