4 Reasons For An Island Holiday In Mallorca In Spain’s Balearic Islands
Home
Page / Travel Guide
The Balearic Islands of Spain are a popular destination with several choices. While Ibiza is a renowned party island, its more traditional sister Mallorca offers gorgeous beaches, stunning mountain landscapes and quaint, traditional hill towns to explore. Let’s have a look at what this lovely island has to offer.
1, Landscapes of Mallorca
The renowned Spanish artist, Miró loved Mallorca for its pure Mediterranean light. For us ordinary folks, it is the striking Serra de Tramuntana with its limestone spires, Mallorca’s golden vineyards in autumn and its meadows full of almond blossom in the spring.

Landscapes are also about gorgeous beaches and secluded coves, the turquoise ocean and rugged cliffs. For those who love the quiet, hiking to hilltop monasteries, or cycling through the traditional stone villages makes for Kodak moments. This lovely island is a year-round destination, equally beautiful in each season.
2. Mallorca is accommodating
A stay on the island of Mallorca offers many choices. At the coastal resorts, modern hotels and resorts abound. Each offers great dining and amenities like swimming pools and fitness centres, while your room offers beautiful ocean views or vistas of the island.
A more traditional and charming way to stay is in one of the many old manor houses, abandoned fincas and country estates that have been converted and revamped into gorgeous rural retreats and bed & breakfasts.
For those who love to be independent on their holiday, the island offers a great range of luxurious family villas and apartments, perfect for couples, families and groups alike. Put simply, the choice is yours. While staying in the towns or villages, live like a local, while enjoying the summer festes (festivals) for a true slice of local life.

3. Historical Mallorca
Mallorca has many fascinating historical sites to visit, including the 14-16th century Cathedral de Mallorca (La Seu), with its beautiful rose window and many works by Spanish architect and designer, Antoni Gaudi. The 10th century Royal Palace of La Almudaina is a Muslim fortress in Palma that was rebuilt in a Gothic style following the Catalan conquest in the 14th century.
Standing guard over the city of Palma and its harbour, the Castell de Bellver is an attractive, circular shaped castle built by Jaume II in the 14th century. These days the castle is home to the Municipal History Museum of Mallorca.
4. Tastes of Mallorca
Dining in Palma is exciting, as the local chefs produce a fusion of cuisine, inspired by their Mallorcan grandmothers and Mediterranean nouvelle cuisine. Inland, in the rural towns and villages, traditional and hearty dishes are served including a suckling pig spit-roast or a traditional stew, paired with the best locally produced wines.
Coastal flavors include the freshest catch of the day seafood and fish, served with beautiful ocean views. However, besides all the traditional fare, a range of international food is also available, including Italian, dishes from mainland Spain, Chinese and more. There is absolutely no excuse for going hungry on this lovely Balearic Island!
Enjoy a trip to Mallorca this year, experiencing the lovely landscapes, the cities and towns and so much more.
